Corona was Paul Celan's last poem written in Vienna in 1948, before he left for Paris. Later he dedicated the poem to Ingeborg Bachmann with 23 poems from the collection Poppy and Memory. In a letter to Paul Celan (June 24, 1949) she commented:
I have often thought that "Corona" is your most beautiful poem, it is the most perfect anticipation of a moment where everything becomes marble and exists forever.
